"Create Missing Code" Field on Configuration Card : Objective?

Updated: Jun 11, 2023

Objective of "Create Missing Code" field

The Create Missing Code field in Business Central provides a valuable capability for creating missing codes in related tables.

When uploading bulk master data in a new implementation, this feature becomes particularly useful and can help you avoid a multitude of errors while saving time.

Explanation:

Scenario:

Imagine a scenario where you need to upload a large amount of data into Business Central.

Without the Create Missing Code field, you would typically have to manually assign codes to each line.

This manual process is not only time-consuming but also prone to human error, potentially leading to missing or incorrect codes in the database.

For Example:

I am uploading customer master data with Customer Posting Group and Ship-to Address. And Separately I don't upload the Customer posting group and Ship-to address in the related table.

What happens if Create Missing Code Boolean = OFF

What happens if Create Missing Code Boolean = ON

The above error will no longer exist, and Customer Master uploaded successfully.

Showcase in BC:

Create a new Configuration Package Card named Customer Data Upload.

Add a customer table in the line and select the related fields that you want to include in the Excel Data Template. Make sure to include the Ship-to Address and Customer Posting Group fields.

Additionally, please enable the Boolean switch to create missing codes for the Ship-to Address and Customer Posting Group.

Table → Fields

Note: By default, the Create Missing Code field is hidden in the configuration package fields. Please add it using the Personalize option.

Furthermore, I would like to highlight that the Create Missing Code Boolean will only work if the Relation Table ID exists. It will not work for all fields.

Upload Customer Data:

Let's upload the customer master data and verify if the Ship-to Address is automatically created or not.

Note: In the Ship-to Address, the code is automatically created. However, for other fields such as Name, City, Contact Person Name, and Location code, you will need to update them manually.

Alternatively, you can upload this information using the Configuration package itself.

I hope you find this information helpful and useful for future reference.

Cheers….. 😊
